Dr. Keith Cooper is here blogging today from San Jose, CA to explain how the dental implant procedure does not take up nearly as much time as patients anticipate. If you consider yourself a frequent traveler that does not like to stay in one place at a time and you are suffering from dental issues, dental implants are definitely a solution for you. Here at Contemporary Dental Arts we enjoy seeing the beautiful things in the world and do not want to hold you back from any adventures, but having good oral and dental health can help with the stress- free feeling that you experience while you are away.
The first step to getting this done is to call us to schedule a consultation in which we will examine your jaw bone to see if it will be strong enough for the initial procedure. If you have neglected your dental health severely for years and chewed without teeth, you most likely will have some gum tissue damage and may even develop periodontal disease. If the gums are worn down enough, it can lead to the destruction of the jaw bone, specifically the alveolar bone. When the bone does contain enough stable structure or strength, the process of osseointegration will not be successful; this will ensure that the dental implants will fail.
Keep in mind if there is a brutal amount of damage to the jaw bone, the patient will have to schedule a bone grafting before they can get the dental implants. A bone graft is a bone tissue transplant that replaces the fractured and impaired bone with new and healthy osseous tisse. There is a slight recovery period that follows this to make sure that the jaw bone has regained the strength it needs for the osseointegration to be successful. If you do need a bone graft done, this will add about 3-4 months of healing time to your process.
Osseointegration is the natural bonding between the titanium alloy and the jaw bone tissue, its takes 4-6 months for the process to complete and the jaw bone to regain strength. Once the patient has waited the specified amount of time required by the doctor, they will be ready to receive the actual tooth- colored crowns into the missing spaces in the gums. We spend a great deal of time comparing the dental implants to your natural teeth to make sure that the size, color, shape and contrast are all matched up; no one will be able to tell the difference between the teeth.
Now, we ask that you pencil us in for at least a 6- 8 month span, between the two or three appointments that it takes to complete the procedure, depending on the damage done. However, once the process has been completed it takes patients about 2-3 days to rest before they up and out of the country again. Just in case something does go wrong though, like excessive bleeding or increased discomfort, we ask that all patients stay within the city for at least 14 days so we can make sure the healing is happening correctly.
If you are suffering from the loss of a tooth or teeth, come see us to get set up with dental implants today. When a patient carries on normally without teeth, the gums become susceptible to disease which can create a lot of heart and brain issues that you do not want to deal with. Don’t give the bacteria in your mouth a one way ticket the gums to set up camp; save your oral health with dental implants today.
